Instant Dhokla


Dhokla is well known appetizer in the western region of India, especially Gujarat. This recipe is a faster alternative for the traditional Gujarati dhokla which requires an overnight stand.


1 cup rawa (suji)

2 cups yogurt

1 tsp turmeric powder

1 tsp green chili paste

2 tsp ENO powder

Salt to taste

For the tempering and garnish:

2 tbsp oil

1-2 tsp rai

2 to 3 green chilies chopped

3 -4 curry leaves chopped

Chopped coriander and grated coconut


In a bowl, add the yogurt and rawa and mix well. Then, add the remaining ingredients. Jjust before pouring it into a greased microwave safe dish, add ENO and mix. Cover the dish with cling film. Make some holes for the steam to pass.

Microwave for 10 mins or until done. You can check by inserting a toothpick through it. If it comes out clean, it is done.  Cut it into pieces n keep aside.

In a small pan heat oil. Add rai, curry leaves. and chopped green chilies. Heat for about a minute. Once done, sprinkle over the cut pieces of the dhokla and garnish with coriander leaves and grated coconut.

Serve with green chutney.
